After an intensive sailing life on the IJsselmeer and various Dutch inland waterways, this Sampan is in need of restoration. During launching a leak (30 cm) was discovered just below the waterline.
This hand-built Chinese Sampan is offered for restoration. After restoration this Sampan can be the wonderful pleasure boat again for 2 to 20 people, ideally suited for the Dutch inland waterways and canals of Amsterdam. The ship needs love, protection and some maintenance.
The Sampan was imported by the owner hull from Xinhua, China. The roof is decorated with beautiful Delft woodcarving, made from designs of the Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles anno 1653. At the Hiswa of 2006 the Sampan was presented and christened 'Noah' by then director Ilja van Haaren, business woman of the year 2005. In 2006 Jachtbouw Keikes in Sneek completely motorized and marinized the boat and equipped it with electricity, plug sockets, inverter, shore power connection, water tank, hot and cold running water and music. The interior has been beautifully fitted out with a driver's seat, a 3-metre long bar, a 2-metre long seating area, a cooking area with sink and tap and a toilet. Expect basic functionality rather than luxury and comfort. The 50 HP VW marine diesel saildrive was fully serviced at the end of 2020 (cost 2000) The Sampan has been stored in the shed since then the underwater hull has been prepared with tar epoxy both outside and inside. The Sampan is now available for viewing outside.
Sailing with this Sampan is a unique experience. Sailing characteristics are sublime. The slower the better. But where necessary, the 50 HP gives a lot of power to this light ship. Extremely maneuverable and turns effortlessly with a short turning circle around its axis. My fondest memory of the boat is: The construction in China, the presentation at the Hiswa, the enormous interest in the media, the amazement and admiration of spectators.
In 2021 the boat was out of the water for the last time for maintenance.
