Gulet Hayri Kutlu 1988 – Two-masted wooden schooner with oceanic experience and spacious accommodation
The schooner Hayri Kutlu, built in 1988, is a traditional wooden sailing vessel, constructed at the Hayri Kutlu shipyard in Turkey. Designed for long-distance sailing, it combines classic construction with modern equipment. With a length of 19.15 meters and a width of 5.70 meters, this schooner features a robust V-shaped hull and a draft of 2.70 meters, contributing to its stability on the high seas.
The ship's hull is made of wood, and various structural modifications have been made over the years. The original pine planking has been replaced with Guinea-Bissau teak tali, 4 to 6 cm thick, thus improving the vessel's durability. The hull is equipped. with a tiller and a rudder. The interior headroom of 2.18 meters offers comfortable living space on board.
The schooner is equipped with three double cabins, each with an en-suite bathroom, allowing for six guests. Two additional berths are also available. The interior of the wheelhouse is equipped with a dining area, a refrigerator, an ice maker, and a kitchen with a 2-burner gas stove with an electric valve shut-off, an extractor hood, a Panasonic stainless steel oven with 4 functions, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, and a freezer. The cabins are equipped with new mattresses and bedding, and hot water is provided by 2 pressure groups. The 3 new Nuova Rade electric toilets are connected to a 940-liter wastewater tank, contributing to environmentally friendly use.
A salon area is equipped with a Samsung 49’’ LED TV connected to a Yamaha home theater 7.1 amplifier with 7 speakers and a subwoofer for music lovers, and a DVD player.
The forward compartment serves as a sail locker, workshop, and is equipped with a Bosch wash and dry machine, an ABAC air compressor, a Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner, access to the chain locker, and an exterior exit.
The water tank has a capacity of 972 liters, sufficient for long stays on board and a Schenker Modular 100 watermaker producing 100l/h. The absence of heating makes the vessel particularly suitable for temperate to warm climates.
The schooner is equipped with a General Motors Detroit 6-71 diesel engine with a power of 174 hp. This six-cylinder inboard engine with electric start consumes about 12 liters per hour.
The Allison gearbox is coupled to a 70 shaft and a 36’’ JProp four-blade variable pitch propeller.
The fuel tank has a capacity of 2,000 liters. The engine is operational and has recently been overhauled. The cruising speed is about 7 knots with a maximum speed of .knots at 1800 rpm.
On board, there are various measuring instruments, including a fuel gauge, an oil pressure gauge, a thermometer, and a tachometer. For better maneuverability, the vessel is equipped with a hydraulic bow thruster.
The electrical installation is secured by a Victron isolation transformer, managed by 2 Victron Quattro 24/5000/120, 2 Mastervolt alternators of 150 Ah each, 8 solar panels of 345 W/24V providing a maximum of 115 Ah for 16 batteries with a total capacity of 2080 Ah in 24 V. The vessel is also equipped with two additional 12V and 24V chargers. A new Ouma Fawde generator (model OM10CYZ) with a capacity of 12 kW completes the electrical supply.
The Furuno navigation equipment is suitable for offshore and transoceanic navigation. It includes an AIS, two autopilots, a depth sounder, a fish finder, a forward-looking sonar, 3 GPS, a chart plotter, 2 compasses, a log/speedometer, an anemometer, a digital radar, an ultrasonic wind vane, and electronics.
The radio communication equipment is professional, including a Sailor VHF, a Sailor DSC VHF, a Sealink 4-frequency Navtex, a DSC HF MF SSB AM, and an Icom HF/MF antenna.
The onboard electrical system operates at 12 V, 24 V, and 220 V.
The schooner has two steel masts and a sail plan with seven sails (including 5 upwind for 192m², 1 Parasailor Istec of 100m², and a spare genoa of 73m², mizzen), a mainsail, a spinnaker, and a Parasailor Istec. The foresails, genoa, staysail, and mule are equipped with furlers, while the mainsail and mizzen are equipped with fully battened sails on Harken tracks. 4 winches on the coachroof manage the staysail and mainsail. 6 winches, including 4 electric ones in the cockpit, manage the foresails. The sails have been recently renewed. This extensive sail plan allows the vessel to adapt to different wind conditions, contributing to safety and comfort during long voyages.
On the deck, at the bow, the stainless steel anchors are on a rail and pivoting bow roller, one weighing 80 kg with a 13mm DIN766 chain and one weighing 70 kg on a cable, maneuverable by a Baitra Data DZC1701H hydraulic windlass with counter and remote control and a high-pressure seawater group for chain cleaning. For more comfort and ease of use, a bimini, davits, deck awnings, fenders, ropes, a 1.05m guardrail, and a swim ladder are at your disposal. The tender is a semi-rigid with an aluminum bottom from the brand Xiangdu, measuring 3.80 meters long and 2.14 meters wide. The outboard motor is a Parsun 15 hp 2-stroke. A foldable gangway of 2x2m in aluminum and teak at the stern, 4 deck lights, a pivoting spotlight on the mizzen, a Sterwins high-pressure cleaner for cleaning
The safety equipment on board includes 2 lifebuoys with self-igniting lights, 4 life rings, a liferaft, a self-draining cockpit, and 4 electric bilge pumps 24V and 220V and a manual one in the cockpit. 8 SOLAS life jackets
This equipment is suitable for coastal and offshore navigation.
The current owner purchased the vessel in 2005 in Turkey and registered it in Malta. Since then, it has sailed in the waters around Malta, Greece (Santorini, Crete), Italy (Lampedusa, Limosa), Tunisia (Hammamet, Monastir, Sousse), Sardinia, France, and Spain. According to the owner, the schooner has proven itself in difficult weather conditions, including winds of force 9. Between 2018 and 2023, a complete renovation was carried out to make it suitable for autonomous transoceanic navigation. The vessel has a few points of attention: connections to the various tanks, electrical connections, renewal of seals, painting of the hull below and above the waterline. We advise you to take advantage of the viewing day to conduct a thorough inspection of the vessel's condition. This is entirely possible, as it is currently docked.
The vessel is currently registered with the Panama Maritime Authority and has a registration certificate and a radio station license. VAT has not been paid. The boat is registered under the number 49206-176C.
This 1988 Hayri Kutlu schooner is a traditional wooden sailing vessel, rich in history and equipped for long-distance sailing. With spacious accommodation and complete, modern navigation equipment, this vessel is suitable for both leisure sailing and daily living. The combination of classic construction and modern features makes it an interesting vessel for sailors seeking a ship with character and charm.
