The Rio Grande is a Cape Falga brand sailboat, built in 1984 with a steel double-knuckle hull. The boat has a length of 9 meters, a width of 2.8 meters and a draft of 1.3 meters. The headroom is 11.5 meters. The boat was designed by Cape Falga and built by Jachtwerf Kooy Middenmeer, with a weight of 4800 kg and single tiller steering located outside.
Technical documentation from the yard, including maintenance and replacement data for the engine and pumps, is available.
The condition of the boat is good. The boat was last taken out of the water for maintenance and antifouling in 2021.
Onboard accommodations include four permanent berths and a headroom of 1.85 meters. The interior is equipped with a dining area, pillows, mattresses, curtains, a stove, a sink and a water faucet with foot pump. The Truma heater provides heating, and there is a ventilation system for cooling in hot weather. The cabinets and drawers are seaworthy and do not slide open when tilted. There is a refrigerator compartment under the floor and a chemical toilet, but no hot water.
The boat is powered by a 1984 Bukh Diesel DV 20 engine with an output of 20 hp and consumption of 4 liters per hour at full load. The engine has about 70 running hours per year. The original instruction book is present and the engine was overhauled by Clouds International Marine Engine and Service about 12 years ago. Electricity on board is provided by two 12V batteries.
The rig includes one aluminum mast and four sails in very good condition, including a mainsail, jib, storm jib and genoa. The mainsail and jib were made in 2017 by sailmaker M-Sails and fitted with telltails. Reefing the mainsail is done manually with reefing knuckles.
Exterior equipment includes two anchors with chain, a spray hood, tarpaulin, pulpit and stern chairs, swim ladder, sea railing, fenders and lines. The cockpit is self-draining.
The powerful features of our boat lie in her stable sailing qualities in wind and rough weather. The large width of the sailboat, the weak bilge and the comparatively large length at the waterline guarantee excellent form stability and smooth movements in rough water.
Due to a special arrangement of rudder, skeg and keel, for the size of the boat, a very striking course stability goes together with perfect maneuverability both sailing and sailing on wider waters.
With the Rio Grande comes a trailer, built on a heavy truck chassis, with two axles and a hinged drawbar. This trailer is not suitable for use on public roads and is intended for moving the boat under a crane. The trailer is in moderate condition.
