With its beautiful classic lines, Bara is always a crowd pleaser. Bara is "just a little different" from the plastic boats we see a lot these days. Bara is a sloop rigged sailing yacht with a polyester hull and wooden superstructure. The propeller is a 'max prop' self-adjusting 2-blade propeller, clockwise turning. The top of the mast sits at 14 meters above the waterline. With the mast lowering system we had installed, all bridges on the larger waterways are easily passed.
Equipment includes - heating - Webasto Air Top 2000, diesel - mast lowering system - NASA log and depth sounder - NASA Windfinder (solar) - 2x Plastimo ball compass, - fire extinguishers, - autom. bilge pump, - 3-burner gas stove + oven, - refrigerator 12v/220v - pump toilet and washbasin - cockpit cushions, large BB bakskist with fenders, - mooring ropes, lines etc, extra storage compartments and - Delta anchor with chain fore run, - spinnaker boom, - fixed stainless steel swim ladder on transom.
The plan was to fully restore Bara and then sail it across the North Sea. Bara has been completely restored mechanically, engine, rigging, mast-strutting installation, gas installation, battery installation and the deck (from Teak to Flexiteak) has all been addressed. Inside, most of the boat has been repainted. Bara goes out of the water about once every 2 years for periodic maintenance. At these times the anti-fouling is always refreshed as well.
Apart from the year of construction (1980) and the name of the designer (Buchanan), nothing is known about the early years. It seems that the boat was built in the US and sailed across at some point. It also appears to have been sailed in the baltic. Since 2013, the boat has been in Linden.
Bara responds smoothly to the tiller, turns almost on a dime and is quickly back up to speed. A wonderful sailboat to sail.
