Verl 900 – Polyester Sailing Yacht with Functional Equipment and Practical Layout
The Verl 900 is a British-made sailing yacht, designed by the renowned yacht designer Robert Clark. This specific model, built in 1979, is a polyester round-bilge sailing yacht with a length of 9.22 meters and a width of 2.92 meters. With a draft of 1.70 meters and an air draft of 11 meters, the ship is suitable for both inland and coastal waters. The hull is designed with an encapsulated keel and a through-hull rudder, contributing to its course stability and steadiness under sail. The boat is IPC registered under number 108983-A.
The hull and deck are made of polyester, a material known for its durability and low-maintenance properties. The hull shape is round-bilge, providing a comfortable sea motion. Steering is done via a tiller in the cockpit. The boat features a single aluminum mast and is equipped with four sails, including a mainsail, genoa, and gennaker. The foresail is equipped with a furling system, simplifying reefing and hoisting.
Inside, the Verl 900 offers a headroom of 1.70 meters. The layout is practical with a dining area, a galley, and a wet cell. The galley is equipped with a two-burner gas stove with oven, a sink, refrigerator, freezer, and hot water supply. The wet cell is equipped with an electric toilet that can discharge into a 60-liter holding tank or directly into surface water. The water tank has a capacity of 40 liters.
There are two fixed berths and two additional berths available, making the ship suitable for short vacations with a small group. Mattresses are present, and the interior space features renewed floor and ceiling coverings.
The boat is equipped with a two-cylinder Volvo Penta inboard diesel engine with a power of 16 hp. The engine is electrically started and operational. Fuel consumption is around 1 liter per hour, with a diesel tank of 60 liters. The electrical installation is extensive and consists of three batteries, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, shore power connection, and a solar panel. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V.
The navigation equipment is modern and includes an autopilot (Raymarine EV-100, 2022), depth meter, GPS, chart plotter, compass, log/speedometer, and wind meter. The boat is equipped with an NMEA2000 network, ensuring efficient communication between the various electronic systems. A multifunction display (Raymarine eS78) and an i70s instrument (2023) are also present.
On deck, the boat is equipped with a sprayhood (cleaned and impregnated in 2024), cockpit table, pulpit and pushpit seats, guardrail, and swim ladder. A lazy bag (2024) and a cover for the tiller are included. The anchor is secured with chain and line. The cockpit is self-draining, and there is an electric bilge pump present.
The boat comes with various extras, including a specially designed control panel, a new mooring line (2024), and a charge current distributor (2022).
The current owner acquired the ship in 2017 and has since carried out various works. The electrical installation has been completely renewed, including wiring and switch panel. The windows, including the deck hatch, have been replaced. The galley and wet cell have been rebuilt. The running rigging was replaced in 2022, and the tanks for water, fuel, and wastewater have been renewed. The last antifouling treatment took place in 2022, and the ship was out of the water for inspection and maintenance in 2024.
The boat has mainly been used on inland waters and for vacations. Thanks to its robust construction and design for the North Sea, the Verl 900 is also suitable for heavier conditions. The combination of practical equipment, modern navigation equipment, and a functional layout makes this ship suitable for sailors looking for a classic design with modern adaptations.
