Arsenal de Cherbourg Freycinet – Residential and Recreational Vessel with Character
This Arsenal de Cherbourg Freycinet from 1950 is a former cargo ship that has been converted into a sailing houseboat. The ship was shortened in 2005 to a length of 29.30 meters, making it compliant with the Freycinet dimensions, suitable for many European inland waterways. With a width of 5.08 meters and a draft of 1.10 meters, this steel ship offers a stable and spacious sailing platform for both living and leisure cruising.
The hull is entirely made of steel, contributing to the ship's robustness. The clearance height is 4.00 meters, allowing it to pass under most bridges on inland waterways. The interior headroom is 2.15 meters, providing a comfortable living space on board. The ship has an International Certificate for Pleasure Craft (ICP) and is equipped with various official documents, including the European Community Certificate, a measurement certificate, and a hull inspection report.
The living area on board is equipped with a salon of approximately 45 m², which includes a semi-equipped kitchen. There is one master bedroom, as well as a bathroom with a shower and electric toilet. Central heating on fuel oil and a wood stove provide warmth during colder days. Additionally, air conditioning is available for extra comfort during the summer months. The water tank has a capacity of 1,000 liters, which is sufficient for extended stays on board.
An additional room is located in front of the wheelhouse and is currently under renovation. The former skipper's quarters are not yet furnished but offer potential for an extra bedroom and bathroom. The wheelhouse itself also needs refreshing.
Propulsion is provided by a Baudouin DNP 6 diesel engine from 1950 with a power of 215 hp. This six-cylinder inboard engine is operational and enables the ship to achieve a cruising speed of approximately 8 km/h, with a maximum speed of about 15 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1,000 liters. Onboard instruments include a temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge.
The electrical system on board operates on both 12V and 220V. There are two batteries available, as well as a battery charger. For navigation, the ship is equipped with a compass and a VHF radio. The wheelhouse offers sufficient visibility all around, contributing to safety while sailing.
On deck, there are three anchors with chain attachments and a manual windlass. Additionally, the ship is equipped with a deck cover, fenders, lines, and a guardrail. A deck terrace provides space for outdoor living. For safety, a lifebuoy is available, and an electric bilge pump ensures water drainage in case of leakage.
The ship was taken out of the water in 2024 for inspection and maintenance. In the same year, the antifouling was reapplied. The hull inspection and conformity check are scheduled for September 2024. Some points of attention are known, including the exterior paintwork, radio equipment, and parts of the interior that require renewal or finishing.
The ship has been used on inland waterways and has served as a houseboat and for recreational use. Note: The current berth is not included in the sale.
