The Trawler 1700, named Bordermaid, is a classic wooden ocean liner, originally built in 1959 in Scotland by Gerrard Brothers, Arbroath. Measuring 17 meters long and 5.6 meters wide, the vessel has a characteristic s-frame hull and was formerly used for fishing in the North Sea. Its sturdy and robust construction makes it suitable for both sea and inland waters.
The current owner has converted the boat for pleasure cruising and living, with a combination of authentic elements and modern amenities, such as a 300-hp Cummins NT-855M electric engine that can reach a top speed of 20 mph. The boat features comfortable living facilities with a dining area, shower, refrigerator, stove, microwave and central heating, making it suitable for longer stays on the water. There are 2 fixed berths and 1 additional berth available.
The boat does need overdue maintenance, especially regarding wood repairs, and was last taken out of the water in May 2021 for an antifouling treatment. Despite these flaws, the boat is technically reliable, with maintained equipment and a working engine and electronics.
With its rich history as a North Sea cutter, the Bordermaid offers both a solid maritime heritage experience and a practical and adventurous sailing adventure.
