The Van de Stadt Norman 40 Deksalon, built in 2001, is a robust, solid and well-equipped motor sailor. With a length of 12 meters, width of 3.95 meters and a draft of 1.75 meters, this steel boat offers both stability and comfort. The boat has a vertical clearance of 18 meters, which makes it suitable for both inland waters and seas.
The Norman 40 was designed by renowned designer Van de Stadt and built by Aecon Shipyard. The hull was built in 1999 under Germanischer Lloyd in Bulgaria and later finished in the Netherlands. The boat has a round bilge hull shape and is colored white, both hull and superstructure. The superstructure has an anti-slip deck, which allows safe movement on deck.
Inside, the boat offers classic and warm mahogany paneling with a comfortable headroom of 1.86 meters in the deck saloon and 1.85 meters elsewhere. The layout consists of a spacious salon with panoramic views, a longitudinal galley, three cabins and a wet room. The salon has a large round seating area and a table with integrated bottle rack. The galley is equipped with a four-burner stove, microwave, refrigerator, freezer and several new kitchen appliances. The wet bar has a manual toilet and shower. There is room for six permanent berths divided among the three cabins. The mattresses in the aft cabin need to be replaced.
The boat is powered by a Volvo Penta MD22L engine of 59 hp from 2000, with 670 running hours. The fuel tank has a capacity of 200 liters. The electrical system includes a Victron Phoenix battery charger and inverter, three new batteries (2023), shore power connection and several measuring instruments.
The rigging consists of an aluminum mast with a mainsail and a genoa, both in good condition. The headsail is equipped with a furling system. The boat features six Lewmar two-speed selftailing winches and a Raymarine SPX10 autopilot.
Onboard safety features include an electric bilge pump, fire extinguishers, self-draining cockpit and life jackets. For anchoring, there are two anchors with chain and line and a manual anchor winch. On deck there is plenty of equipment, including pulpit and stern chairs, swim ladder, teak deck and swim platform.
The first owner received the boat in late 2001 and it was rigged in 2002. Since then, the boat has been used relatively little, with 670 engine hours. The current owner has lived and sailed on the boat for over two years, using it for pleasure boating, vacations and weekends away.
The boat is in good condition with some minor flaws including superficial rust spots, a bathroom faucet that needs to be made gangly, and valves that need to be checked. The last maintenance and antifouling treatment took place in 2022.
