Invicta is a real classic polyester yacht, not so many of them were built in Holland, so you don't see them much. In England they were also built but with a less beautiful interior and finish. The engine is a Dolphin 12 hp inboard gasoline engine, overhauled in 2018, there is a spark-free fan. The engine runs light with little vibration. There are 3 berths, actually 4 but a dog cage is set up as storage. The cushions are genuine leather. There is a galley, chart table and toilet. The headroom is 1.5 m, you do everything sitting down. Additional sails: spinnaker, double Bollejan. Lowerable mast with bows and rigging. Headroom standing mast 11 m. Sailor VHF radio, Sestrel Moore compass, B&G log-depth sounder, Raytheon autopilot, GPS AP MK4. Clock, barometer, 4 fenders, 4 mooring ropes, life buoy with light, anchor with line. Winter cover, battery charger, bilge pump.
In the 1960s, the Dutch designer E.G. Van de Stadt designed the first polyester cabin sailing yachts, a whole series from small to large. Famous is the 9-meter Pionier with which the first solo trip around the world was made by a Dutchman. Invicta is one size smaller at 8 meters. Invicta is the type but also the name. Invicta is very fully equipped and everything is in good condition. The underwater hull was treated with copper epoxy in 2016 and is now in need of maintenance. Invicta is on shore at a yard in Den Bosch and can be viewed there by a new lover of classic polyester sailing yachts. Designer Van de Stadt guarantees good sailing properties, Invicta sails like a classic s-spant with long keel and attached rudder. Because of the large rudder surface and the cut away keel it is still a maneuverable ship. When purchased in 1989 it was thought to replace the gasoline engine with a diesel, but after sailing with it for a few years it was decided to overhaul the gasoline engine, in 2018 she has been to that overhaul company again. On the engine she sails well, but the sailing characteristics are so good that if there is only a little wind you can sail better. Maneuvering with a long keel takes some getting used to, but with a displacement of 2.3 tons you can easily do some more by hand.
