Specifications
Characterful steel cabin sloop as a project
What kind of boat is she exactly?
This Kajuitvlet 530 is a compact steel cabin boat with a hard-chine hull, built for relaxed recreational cruising on inland waters, canals and ditches. With a length of approx. 5.30 metres and a beam of about 2.20 metres, she looks tough and classic at the same time, while her shallow draft of around 0.40 metres makes her particularly suitable for shallower stretches and sheltered routes. The cabin sloop is offered via Boatauction and is aimed at the buyer looking for a character project: a steel vlet with presence, which can become a charming appearance again after attention and work.
The boat has a compact cabin with wooden interior lining and a cockpit with side benches, making her a solid base for day trips. Think quiet cruising through the canals, an afternoon on the lakes, or a loop through the polder waterways. Her classic lines and steel hull give her that typical vlet look many enthusiasts search for online using terms such as steel cabin vlet, steel cabin boat, or vlet project boat.
Kajuitvlet 530 now in the online auction. Everyone can bid up to and including 6 July 2026.
Why is this an interesting restoration project?
She is offered in damaged condition and has been laid up for a long time. This means that as a buyer you should expect both cosmetic and technical work. At the same time, that is exactly the appeal for many boaters: you can bring her back step by step to a look that matches her classic character. The steel hull and superstructure show atmospheric soiling, with areas where paint is flaking and where surface rust is visible, for example on the side decks and around weld seams. A thorough approach—sanding, preserving and repainting—makes sense if you want her looking sharp again.
Inside, she also needs attention. The interior should be emptied and cleaned, after which a technical inspection is advisable. The woodwork is largely present and can bring back warmth and atmosphere with a fresh coat of varnish. Anyone looking for a cabin boat refurbishment project or a steel boat restoration project will find in this Kajuitvlet 530 a clear, honest basis: you can see what needs doing and you can largely determine the end result yourself.
What about the engine and readiness to cruise?
The boat is equipped with a Mariner 5 hp petrol outboard engine with manual start. The engine’s operation is unknown and the steering controls have not been tested. In practical terms, she is not offered as ready to cruise, and as a bidder you should allow for diagnosis, servicing or replacement depending on what you find. For many buyers, an outboard is practical: it keeps space free on board and makes it relatively easy to choose a different engine setup later that suits your cruising area and preferences.
Those searching for “Mariner 5 hp outboard” or “cabin vlet with outboard” will recognise that this type of propulsion is often chosen for calm inland waters and short trips. But for this auction lot: inspect first, then make plans.
What can you expect from the deck and layout?
On deck, the sturdy stainless-steel bow rail and robust bollards stand out—features that match the classic vlet feel and are practical when mooring in canals or at a jetty. The helm position is located on the port side and fitted with a modern stainless-steel steering wheel. In the cockpit, side benches provide seating for passengers, while the cabin offers shelter in changeable weather. That combination is exactly what makes a cabin vlet popular with enthusiasts who want to sit dry during a day on the water without the boat becoming large or complicated.
What is known about her background?
This boat was obtained in the course of carrying out a government task, and it was not possible to transfer her back to the owner. Further history is unknown. She has been used on inland waters, canals and ditches and served for day trips and leisure boating. For buyers who value transparency, this is important: you purchase her based on what you see, what you can check, and what you can assess during a viewing.
How does bidding via Boatauction work and what is sensible to do?
The cabin vlet is offered via online auction in her current condition, as she lies now. Study the detailed photos carefully and make use of the viewing day to inspect her up close. Take the time to assess the hull, paintwork, interior and engine installation so you can realistically estimate the work involved. If you are looking for a steel cabin boat to refurbish, a classic vlet for the canals, or a compact cabin boat as a project, this is a lot that invites you to make plans and give her a future on the water again.
