The Mirror Sloop 720, built in 1959 by the shipyard De Hoop & Sons, is a wooden sloop with a length of 7.20 meters and a width of 2.20 meters. The draft is 1.15 meters, including the keel. This sloop, named 'Odysseus', was originally designed as a sailing sloop with a cabin but was later converted into a motorized version. The hull and superstructure are entirely made of wood, contributing to the vessel's classic appearance.
The sloop is suitable for use on inland waters and lakes and has been used for day trips in recent years. The current owner purchased the boat in 2020. Since then, the sloop has been taken out of the water annually for maintenance and protection during the winter months.
In 2024, a refurbished Volvo Penta MD2020 diesel engine was installed by Yacht Service Hoorn. This inboard engine delivers 19 hp and is equipped with a reversing gear. The engine is started electrically. The battery was replaced in 2021, and the previous battery, which is still functional, is included in the sale. Annual engine maintenance has been performed by Yacht Service Hoorn, with maintenance reports available from 1992, including invoices and photos.
The sloop is steered via a tiller. There is one anchor present, secured with a line.
The Mirror Sloop 720 is equipped with a teak deck and features various equipment for comfort and protection. Onboard, there are outdoor deck cushions, fenders, and lines. For protection against the elements, there is a sprayhood and a custom-made tarpaulin. The tarpaulin was made in 2022 and is suitable for both summer and winter use.
The interior of the sloop is fitted with teak paneling, benches, and a sun deck with cushions. These elements were added during a renovation by the previous owner, prior to the purchase in 2020. The sloop can accommodate eight to ten people during a cruise. When using the sun deck, there is space for about six people.
In 2023, major maintenance was carried out on the exterior of the sloop by Seafit in Heerhugowaard. A new varnish system was applied to both the exterior and the teak deck. Additionally, two layers of antifouling were applied to the underwater hull. The accompanying maintenance plan, prepared by Seafit, is included in the sale.
The last antifouling treatment dates from 2023. In the winter of 2024, the sloop was last taken out of the water for maintenance. For future maintenance, it is advised to completely strip the underwater hull and re-treat it with antifouling or varnish/paint.
The sloop has a long history and has been in use since 1959. The current owner took over the boat in 2020 from a previous owner who carried out a renovation. Since then, the sloop has been used for recreational sailing on inland waters and lakes. The name 'Odysseus' refers to the ship's classic character and underscores the appearance of a traditional wooden vessel.
The Mirror Sloop 720 'Odysseus' is a wooden sloop with a rich history and classic appearance. The combination of a refurbished diesel engine, teak paneling, and a custom-made tarpaulin makes this sloop suitable for enthusiasts of traditional sailing.
