Marion 540 tender sloop with trailer
What kind of boat is the Marion 540?
The Marion 540 is a compact tender sloop from 2024, measuring 5.40 metres in length and 2 metres in beam. She is built of polyester and has a draft of approximately 60 centimetres. With an air draft of 1.20 metres, she is suitable for use on many inland waterways, canals, ditches, lakes and rivers. The boat has been used for day trips and recreational boating and is being offered through BoatAuction.
This Marion has been designed for relaxed use and practical space. There is a wide bench at the stern and a spacious U-shaped seating area with a table at the bow. The table can be converted into a sun bed, making her suitable for different occasions on board. Storage space is available beneath the benches. There is also a spacious storage compartment at the bow for items you want to take with you during a day on the water.
What is the layout on board?
The helm position is located outside at the stern, at a steering console with a steering wheel. The boat is controlled with a single rudder. The cockpit is self-draining, which is practical in rainy weather or when water splashes on board. The Marion is equipped with various amenities that make staying on board more comfortable. These include a bimini, a sprayhood, outdoor
cushions, a cockpit table and a teak deck.
A swimming platform with a bathing ladder is fitted at the stern. This makes it easier to get back on board from the water. One or more covers are provided for protection and covering. The equipment is aimed at recreational use, allowing you to adapt the boat to sunny conditions, cooler weather or spending time on board during a longer day trip.
Which engine does the Marion 540 have?
The boat is powered by a 2024 Tohatsu outboard engine. It is a petrol engine with an output of 20 hp and four cylinders. The engine is electrically started and was reported as operational in the information provided. The engine is installed in an engine well, making it less prominent in terms of visibility and noise while underway. According to the current owner, it is quiet in the well and economical to use.
The Marion 540 is not primarily intended as a high-speed boat. The combination of a stable hull design, a clear steering position and a 20 hp engine is mainly suited to calm recreational cruising. The owner describes her as very stable. The final sailing characteristics depend on the load, water conditions and the number of people on board.
What comes with the boat?
This Marion 540 is supplied with a 2024 Thomson road trailer. The trailer has one axle and five rollers and is not tilting. It is a road trailer without a registration plate. No trailer winch has been specified. According to the information provided, the trailer is in good condition. During the viewing day, check whether the trailer, rollers and other components suit your method of transporting and storing the boat.
An anchor with line and one battery are also included. A bow thruster is not applicable to this version. No tender is included. The combination of boat and trailer may be interesting if you want to use the Marion at different locations, but take into account the requirements of your towing vehicle, storage space and the available slipways.
What points should you pay attention to?
There is a scratch in the paint on the starboard side of the bow. In addition, the canvas needs to be thoroughly cleaned. These are visible points to take into account when assessing the boat. The Marion has been used and is not presented as an undamaged example. During the viewing day, you can carefully inspect her condition, finish, canvas, engine compartment, teak deck and trailer.
The boat was last taken out of the water for maintenance in 2026. The most recent antifouling treatment was carried out in 2024. The current owner has stated that the Marion was purchased relatively new and subsequently used for approximately two years. As the boat is reportedly used too little, she is now being sold.
Who is this boat suitable for?
The Marion 540 may suit you if you are looking for an easy-to-handle sloop for relaxed trips on inland waterways. Her layout provides space for spending time together, while the seating area at the bow offers additional flexibility. You can use her for a leisurely day on the water, a picnic on board or a trip through canals and across lakes and rivers. The combination of the bimini, sprayhood, cushions and table makes her suitable for changing conditions.
Anyone searching online for buying a boat, buying a second-hand boat or tips for buying a boat should consider more than just the year of construction and engine power. The condition of the canvas, trailer and maintenance history, as well as the available storage space and layout, also play a role. With this Marion, the main points of attention have been clearly stated: the scratch on the bow and the canvas that needs cleaning.
What should you look for during the viewing day?
During the viewing day, you can inspect the Marion 540 up close and assess her equipment. Pay attention to the condition of the polyester, paintwork, cushions, teak deck and canopy materials. Also inspect the steering console, electric starting system, battery and the attachment of the swimming platform and bathing ladder. The engine can be visually checked for its general condition and installation.
You should also carefully include the Thomson trailer in your assessment. Check the tyres, rollers, lights and coupling, and compare the trailer’s dimensions with your transport options. A viewing gives you the opportunity to form your own impression of the boat before placing a bid. The Marion 540 is offered with the equipment present and the points of attention mentioned above.
