Aquanaut 705 Cabrio from 1979 – Steel Motorboat with Convertible Top and Extensive Equipment
The Aquanaut 705 Cabrio is a steel motorboat with a length of 7.50 meters and a width of 2.35 meters. Built in 1979, this boat is designed for recreational use on inland waters, canals, ditches, and lakes. Thanks to its shallow draft of 70 cm and an air draft of 2.45 meters, the boat is suitable for a wide range of sailing areas in the Netherlands. The hull has a V-bottom and is steered via a steering wheel from the inside helm.
Inside, the Aquanaut 705 offers space for four fixed berths, divided between a dinette and a forepeak. Additionally, there is an extra sleeping option for a fifth person, for example, on an air mattress in the cabin. The headroom inside is 2 meters, providing a comfortable living space. The boat is equipped with a manual toilet, a small kitchen with a two-burner stove, a built-in compressor refrigerator with a freezer compartment, and a hot water boiler that operates on both electricity and engine heat. The freshwater tank has a capacity of 88 liters.
The boat is equipped with a Kubota marine diesel engine from 2001 with a power of 37 hp. The engine has 1,568 operating hours and is started manually. The cruising speed is around 20 km/h, with a maximum speed of approximately 25 km/h. The fuel tank has a capacity of 88 liters. In 2023, two new 180 Ah starter batteries were installed, as well as a 185W solar panel. In 2024, a Victron inverter/charger (1200/50) was added to the electrical system. The boat features shore power connection, battery charger, inverter, voltmeter, and a 12V system.
For navigation, the boat is equipped with a Raymarine chart plotter, which also serves as a depth sounder and fishfinder. Additionally, there are instruments such as a fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer. The tachometer does not always function optimally at low speeds but generally works under higher engine loads.
The cockpit is equipped with a convertible top that can be completely removed, providing an open sailing experience in good weather. There are exterior deck covers, a cockpit tent, exterior deck chairs, a cockpit table, fenders, lines, a swim platform, and a swim ladder. The boat has a self-draining cockpit and an electric bilge pump. An anchor with a line is also included.
In 2024, the underwater hull was treated and given new antifouling. The rubbing strake was also replaced with a stainless steel version. In 2025, various updates were made, including new carpeting in the cabin, new vinyl in the wheelhouse, two new helm seats, and a new inflatable dinghy for 2 to 3 people with paddles. Additionally, new windows were installed in the convertible top, including Velcro for hanging curtains. In 2019, the convertible top and winter cover were renewed, as well as the cushions of the dinette and forepeak.
There are a few points that may require attention:
The current owner has used the boat for recreational trips, vacations, and weekend getaways on the Dutch inland waters. No additional documentation is available. The Aquanaut 705 Cabrio offers a combination of practical sailing characteristics and a functional layout, suitable for families or couples looking for a compact motorboat with overnight accommodations.
