Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC – Spacious and Robust Motorboat with Twin Diesel Engines
The Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC is an American-made motor yacht, built in 1985 by the renowned Chris Craft shipyard. This model is known for its spacious layout, stable sailing characteristics, and robust fiberglass hull. With a length of 10.69 meters and a width of 3.99 meters, this boat offers ample space for comfortable onboard living, both during day trips and longer vacations on the water.
Dimensions and Construction
The hull of the Catalina 35 DC is made of fiberglass and features a V-bottom, contributing to a stable position in the water. The draft is 90 cm, making the boat suitable for various sailing areas, including inland waters, lakes, rivers, and even coastal waters. The clearance height is 3.75 meters, making the boat accessible for many bridges on Dutch waterways. Inside, there is a headroom of 1.90 meters, providing a comfortable living space.
Engine and Performance
The boat is equipped with two Perkins 6-cylinder diesel engines, each with 135 hp. These inboard engines are electrically started and function properly. The engines were installed in England, as opposed to the original gasoline engines with which this type was standardly delivered. The fuel consumption is around 5 liters per engine per hour, resulting in relatively economical consumption for a boat of this size. The fuel tanks have a combined capacity of 668 liters, including an additional stainless steel tank added to extend the range. The cruising speed is around 15 km/h, with a maximum speed of approximately 22 km/h.
Interior and Accommodation
The Chris Craft Catalina 35 DC offers sleeping space for four people in fixed beds. The interior is equipped with various amenities that make staying on board pleasant. There is a dining area, a kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer, as well as a hot water system. The boat has an electric toilet system with direct discharge to open water and a 90-liter waste water tank. For comfort in colder months, there is hot air heating available.
Electrical Installation and Navigation
The electrical installation consists of two batteries, each 230 Ah, a battery charger, alternator, inverter, and shore power connection. The onboard voltage is 12V and 220V. Additionally, there is a Whisper generator with a capacity of 10 kVA. Navigation equipment includes a depth meter, compass, and log/speedometer. The boat is equipped with various measuring instruments such as a fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and tachometer.
Equipment and Safety
On deck, the boat is equipped with a swim platform, swim ladder, cockpit tent, outdoor deck sails, cockpit table, outdoor deck cushions, fenders, and lines. The guardrail contributes to safety on deck. For anchoring, there is an anchor with a line available. The cockpit is self-draining, and there are safety features such as life buoys, fire extinguishers, and smoke signals. An electric bilge pump ensures water drainage in case of leakage.
Maintenance and Condition
The boat was out of the water for maintenance in 2024 and was also provided with a new antifouling layer. There are some points of attention, including the exterior paintwork, a defective satellite dish, and electrical systems that need to be checked. According to the owner, these defects do not affect the functional sailing properties of the ship.
History and Use
The current owner has owned the boat for three years. The boat was originally built in the United States, then transported to England for the installation of the diesel engines, and subsequently sold to an owner in Germany. After that, the ship ended up in the Netherlands. The boat has been used for recreational sailing on inland waters, canals, lakes, rivers, and also at sea. The owner has used the boat for day trips, weekend getaways, and vacations.
Additional Information
The boat is registered with the RDW, and VAT has been paid. Documentation is available in the form of folders with descriptions of the boat, engines, and parts. Upon sale, everything on board on the viewing day will be included. There is no dinghy or trailer included. The VHF radio on board will be deactivated upon sale; the buyer must arrange a new registration through the Telecom Agency.
