Luxury Motor 2460 from 1922 – Characterful Houseboat with a Rich History
This luxury motor 2460, built in 1922 by the renowned shipyard Gebroeders Boot in Alphen aan de Rijn, offers a unique combination of historical charm and contemporary living comfort. Originally constructed as a motor cargo ship under the name Johanna Maria, the ship has a rich history as a working vessel and later as a motor tanker under the name Taling. Since 2010, the ship has been owned by the current owners, who have converted it into a comfortable houseboat.
Dimensions and Construction
With a length of 24.60 meters and a width of 4.24 meters, this ship offers a spacious living area. The draft is 1.00 meter, and the clearance height is 3.30 meters, making the ship suitable for a wide range of inland waters. The hull is entirely made of steel, contributing to the vessel's robustness. The interior headroom is 2.00 meters, providing a pleasant sense of space inside.
Interior and Layout
The layout of the ship is thoughtfully designed for comfortable living. In the aft cabin, there is the master bedroom with a fixed bed measuring 160 x 200 cm. A spacious storage area has been created under the bed, accessible via an electric hinge system. The room features four fixed wardrobes, two with hanging sections and built-in shoe cabinets, and two with shelves and a total of eight drawers. The ceiling is finished with faux leather.
The wheelhouse is equipped with two benches with comfortable cushions and an original steering wheel that adds to the nautical atmosphere. The dashboard is integrated into a lectern that can also serve as a small table. The wheelhouse was renewed in 2018 and made from hardwood. All windows, including the aluminum portholes in the deckhouse, are double-glazed.
A staircase leads to the former cargo hold, where the bathroom, a second bedroom, and a spacious living room with an open kitchen are located. The bathroom is equipped with a walk-in shower, a standard electric toilet, and a unit with a built-in washer-dryer. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, and stove. Large portholes and a skylight provide plenty of natural light in the living areas. All rooms have electric underfloor heating.
Technical Specifications
The luxury motor is equipped with a DAF 575 inboard diesel engine with a power of 120 hp. The engine has 2,319 operating hours and is operational. The cruising speed is approximately 13 km/h, with a maximum speed of 15 km/h. Steering is done via a wheel in the wheelhouse. The ship has a single rudder.
The electrical installation includes a battery charger, shore power connection, and two new starter batteries with a total capacity of 165 Ah. The home is currently powered solely by shore power. A generator is present but not connected, and its operation is unknown. Navigation equipment includes an AIS system and a VHF radio. The power supply is 220V and 24V.
Tanks and Facilities
The water tank has a capacity of 2,000 liters but is currently not connected. The wastewater tank has a capacity of 300 liters. The toilet discharge is not directly connected to open water. There is one anchor, secured with a chain and operated via a manual windlass.
Maintenance and Condition
The last time the ship was taken out of the water for maintenance and antifouling was in 2018. Some points of attention include the paintwork, the condition of the engine room, and the state of the windlass. These parts may require additional care or inspection.
Extras and Furniture
The sale includes various pieces of furniture, including an oak table, coffee table, TV cabinet, and chest of drawers. The washer-dryer in the bathroom is only 1.5 years old.
Suitable for Living and Sailing
The ship is set up for habitation and has been used as a houseboat on inland waters. The wheelhouse offers a panoramic view and is a pleasant place to stay, both while sailing and when the ship is stationary. The combination of authentic elements and modern amenities makes this ship suitable for those looking for a characterful houseboat with history.
