Compromis 720 for a new boating project
What kind of boat is the Compromis 720?
The Compromis 720 is a compact polyester sailing boat measuring 7.20 metres in length, 2.50 metres in beam and with a draught of approximately 90 centimetres. She has a round-bilged hull and was designed by Frans Maas. Thanks to her modest draught, the boat may be suitable for use on inland waterways, lakes, ponds and rivers. Her dimensions also make her suitable for water sports enthusiasts looking for a manageable boat for day trips, short stays on board or a weekend on the water.
The boat has two fixed berths. The interior is practical in layout and suits the character of a compact cruising sailboat. She is steered from outside with a tiller, in combination with a single rudder. This gives the new owner a direct connection with her sailing characteristics once the technical and sailing equipment has been completed and checked.
Compromis 720 now in the online auction. Everyone can bid until 19 October 2026.
Why might this boat be interesting?
This Compromis 720 offers a basis for someone willing to invest time and attention in a nautical project. She has a polyester hull, an aluminium mast and a manual toilet. The boat originates from an enforcement action at the marina. No additional information about her history is available. There are also no documents present. This means that you should take into account the limited background information and carefully assess for yourself which work and investments will be required.
The boat is in reasonable condition, but maintenance is expressly required. She is therefore not being offered as a ready-to-sail boat. The Compromis 720 may be particularly interesting if you have experience with boat maintenance or work together with someone who can carry out technical and nautical work. For anyone searching online to buy a boat, it is important with this example to look not only at the length and layout, but also at the missing equipment and the information available.
What equipment is missing?
The boat has no sail set. Although she is fitted with an aluminium mast, no sails are present. The buyer must therefore determine which sails are suitable and what their purchase and installation will involve. No trailer is included either. A suitable solution for transport or storage must therefore be arranged separately.
Some inventory is present and included in the sale. No detailed inventory list is available regarding its exact contents. It is advisable to inspect what is on board and its condition yourself during the viewing day. The engine is a Mercury F6MLH four-stroke outboard motor with an output of 6 hp and manual start. The engine’s operation is unknown. Take this into account when assessing the boat and the work expected on board.
What should you take into account as a buyer?
The main points of attention are the absence of a sail set, the unknown operating condition of the outboard motor, the lack of documentation and the general need for maintenance. No specific defects have been reported, but this does not mean that the technical, structural or cosmetic components are in good order without further inspection. The last time the boat was out of the water was in 2026. No information is available about the last antifouling treatment.
The manual toilet does not discharge directly into open water. Other facilities, such as heating, are not present. There is one mast and the boat has no tender. The Compromis 720 has been used for day trips, recreational sailing and weekend use. This use suits her layout, but the missing sails and unknown engine condition make an inspection by the buyer particularly important.
Who is this Compromis 720 suitable for?
She is suitable for a buyer looking for an affordable basis and willing to carry out or commission the necessary work. Anyone looking to buy a second-hand boat without expecting a fully equipped sailing boat straight away can take their time assessing her during the viewing day. The boat requires a realistic estimate of the costs for sails, engine inspection, maintenance and any other work.
For people looking for tips on buying a boat, it is particularly important to determine in advance which components are essential to make her safe and usable again. Carefully inspect the hull, deck construction, mast, rigging, fittings, engine, electrical components and available inventory. As no further history is available, your own inspection is an important part of the purchasing decision.
What can you inspect during the viewing day?
During the viewing day, you can inspect the Compromis 720 on board and around the boat. You will have the opportunity to assess her general condition, layout, hull, deck, mast and available equipment. You can also inspect the Mercury outboard motor, although its operation has not been established in advance. A sea trial or sailing the boat yourself is not part of the sale. Therefore, take sufficient time to inspect her visually and determine in advance which questions are important to you.
This Compromis 720 is being sold as a boat requiring maintenance and without a sail set. She therefore does not constitute a complete, ready-to-use package, but she may provide a starting point for someone who wants to prepare her step by step for future use. Inspect her critically during the viewing day, make your own assessment and bid only if her condition and missing components fit your plans.
