Specifications
This Challenger brand sailboat, type Europe, with a length of 8.30 meters and a width of 3.05 meters. This boat was originally built in 1978 and has since undergone a number of improvements and maintenance to remain in good condition.
The boat is made of polyester and offers ample space for a comfortable sailing experience. The inside accommodation includes a dining area with cushions and mattresses, making it an excellent place to relax and enjoy meals. For overnight accommodation, 2 fixed berths and an additional 3 berths are available, meaning the boat is suitable for short sailing vacations.
The Challenger Europe is powered by a Renault diesel engine with 10 hp of power, which was overhauled in 2022. The engine is started by an electric system and offers a maximum speed of 10 mph. Fuel consumption is relatively economical at about 1 liter per hour. The boat is equipped with a depth gauge and compass for navigation.
As for sailing performance, the Challenger Europe features a single mast made of aluminum and three sails (mainsail, genoa and spinnaker). These sails are in good condition, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable sailing experience. The furling and reefing system for the headsail makes it easy to adjust the sails to the conditions.
Safety on board is well taken care of, with self-draining cockpit, life jackets and a recently inspected set of three inflatable life jackets.
In 2023, the boat underwent a thorough maintenance, with the underside stripped bare and multiple coats of antifouling applied to protect the boat from fouling. Above the waterline, paint work was also performed.
Please note that there are some minor defects, such as unfinished board electrics and the need to replace the bilge pump. Also, the spray hood needs to be replaced, although the old one is still present as a mold.
In short, the Challenger Europe is a solid sailboat some minor points of interest. Ideal for sailing enthusiasts who are looking for relaxing days on the water and may want to do some minor jobs to bring the boat into top shape.
