Friendship 26 from 1981 – Compact Sailing Yacht with Character and History
This Friendship 26, built in 1981 at the Balk shipyard and designed by Jac. de Ridder, is a classic polyester sailing yacht with a length of 8 meters. The ship is suitable for both novice and experienced sailors looking for a functional and characterful yacht for inland waters and lakes. The boat is named "Ampere" and has a rich history, including a voyage from Flensburg and years of trips in Friesland.
Friendship 26 now in the online auction. Everyone can bid until October 27, 2025.
Dimensions and Construction
The Friendship 26 has a width of 2.75 meters and a draft of 1.20 meters. The clearance height is approximately 11 meters, making the ship suitable for most bridges on inland waters. The hull is made of polyester, a widely used material in yacht building due to its durability and ease of maintenance. The cabin has a standing height of 1.75 meters, providing enough space for comfortable living on board.
Interior and Accommodation
The interior of the boat is finished in wood with copper details, giving it a warm and classic appearance. The cabin is equipped with a dining area, mattresses, and a spirit stove. There are five fixed berths, including a berth on the foredeck with a view of the starry sky. The boat has a manual toilet with direct discharge to open water. The water tank has a capacity of 60 liters, although it has not been used by the current owner.
Engine and Technical Equipment
The boat is equipped with a Farymann Allpa 18W inboard diesel engine from 2016 with a power of 8 hp. The engine is electrically started and connected to a 12V system. There is a shore power connection, as well as a light battery and starter battery. The propeller shaft is grease-lubricated and features a folding propeller and reverse gear. The autopilot (ST2000) provides extra comfort during longer trips.
Electronics and Navigation
The navigation equipment consists of a depth meter and a handheld radio. The VHF radio is present but not functional. The handheld radio is connected to the ATIS system and can be included. The electrical installation operates on 12V and is partially functional; some lights in the cabin and the bow light are defective. The shore power connection offers an alternative for power supply on board.
Sailing Equipment
The sail plan consists of a mainsail, genoa, storm jib, and a new jib purchased in October 2024 (purchase value €1,000). The mast is made of aluminum. There is no furling system; reefing is done manually. The boat comes with a cover for the mainsail. Steering is via a tiller in the open cockpit.
Equipment and Extras
On deck, the boat is equipped with a sprayhood (with a repaired tear), fenders, lines, a swim ladder, and a guardrail. There is one anchor with a line and a manual windlass. The boat comes with various accessories, including cushions for the interior, mosquito nets for the forehatch, all lines, and winches.
Known Points of Attention
There are some signs of wear visible on the side decks and in the cockpit. The boat has a new cockpit floor. The electrical installation needs attention; some lights do not work or only work with shore power. The sprayhood is repaired with tape. The VHF radio is not working.
History and Use
The current owner has had the boat since 2022 and used it as a tiny house on the water, located in a quiet area in the Netherlands. The previous owner had the ship for over 20 years. The boat has mainly been used for pleasure cruising and vacations on inland waters and lakes. In the winter of 2024-2025, the boat was in winter storage and provided with primer and antifouling. Minor damages were repaired with epoxy resin, and the forehatch was re-sealed.
Summary
This Friendship 26 offers a combination of classic appearance, functional equipment, and a rich usage history. With a recent engine, new jib, and various onboard facilities, the ship is suitable for those looking for a characterful sailing yacht for recreational use. Documentation such as the purchase agreement from 2022 and registration overview is available.
For those interested in a sailboat with a story and room for personal input and adjustments, this Friendship 26 offers a solid foundation.
