A special Schottel in our auction, an ex RP37 police boat. The vessel has a corten steel hull and deck. Hot-dip galvanized aluminum superstructure. The windows and portholes are tempered glass in aluminum with sun protection film. The two front windows are heated. The vessel is seaworthy, gas tight and sails/maneuvers very well due to her schottel drive (mechanical rudder propeller).
The first Schottel boats date from 1955 and were built at Schottel shipyard in Oberspay, Germany. This shipyard built Schottel boats for Dutch customers until 1966. From 1962 the production was transferred to "van Leest" in Warmond. Schottel boats for Dutch customers were built at both shipyards until 1966, after that only in Warmond.
Fun fact: the Schottel has been featured in a Dutch series (Baantjer).
